Commonly diagnosed in the elderly, the disease is a neurodegenerative condition affecting the basal ganglia of the brain leading to stiffness, slowing of movements and shaking (3 S’s of Parkinson’s disease). Sometimes it can be secondary to certain medications and may be reversible in these conditions. Diagnosis is made primarily using a clinical exam and can be confirmed using a specific radiologic imaging called DaT scan.
