Memory loss is a common complaint in elderly people. Not all memory loss is diagnosed as dementia. Dementia is a condition arising out of neurodegeneration or slow degradation of the brain tissue with age. There are different types of dementia, the most common type is Alzheimer’s dementia. Other less common varieties include Frontotemporal dementia and Vascular dementia. Dementia has progressive symptoms including behavioral and social problems, diagnosis is mainly clinical and radiologically studies. Amyloid PET scans are gaining momentum in the field of dementia as a major diagnostic tool.
